One of the first questions people always ask is "How did you come up with the memorable name for the website?"

The answer is in two parts.

The first is that I have spent time in Kenya and most of the African countries south of Kenya that touch the Indian Ocean since my first visit in 1983 as a student on the St. Lawrence Univesity Kenya Semester Program.  When I was there in 1993 I was deep into Maasai Mara with my Suzuki 4 wheel drive. I was sitting on the roof-via the pop top-- photographing the elephants and a rhino.  We were all alone (which by the way is the best way to be in the Mara) I kept saying  "drive a little closer so I can get a better photo"...Well we did and we got charged. It is something you never forget... and is one of those moments in life that define you.

When I started my third company in 1999, I need a "stealth name" as I began to test the potential of the concept. Big Bad Rhino seemed appropriate and memorable to me personally and as it turns out to most people who heard the name--still many years later.  The company got funded and renamed VillageGenie.com and eventually acquired by a subsidiary of Adecco (A Global 500 corporation) named Lee Hecht Harrison.

I recently brought the Big Bad Rhino name back to life as I continue to work on my "next thing"...
